IT: Welcome To Derry
ENTIRE SEASON SPOILERS AHEAD
Hello Beyond the Threshold! It is so exciting to be writing for you again. Finals week came, destroyed, and left, all for my next semester to begin! I'll be graduating in May, so it’s all worth it!! Today I’m excited to talk about the new ‘It’ series, “It: Welcome to Derry. The season finale was released yesterday, 12/14/26, and it was incredible.
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
Let's first start by talking about the casting! The children and adults picked for this series came and showed out! Every actor truly did a phenomenal job. This TV series is set 27 years before 1988 in Derry, Maine. A town run by white supremacists, and an evil clown. This series explores the children's parents from the original It movie/book. (I know nothing about the book, I've only watched the movies). The men and women cast to be the racist white people of the town were phenomenal; my partner and I felt genuine hatred as they played their roles a little too well! The kids cast as the “main characters” were extraordinary, very well portraying fearful, brave kids around age 12. Interestingly enough, one child actor was 12 years old, while another playing the same-aged role was 17 years old, CRAZY! Their talent was unmatched and kept us ready for more, on the edge of our seats. I was so impressed with the casting; everyone fit their roles so well. While watching, it felt as if I was watching a real-life event happening right in front of me, as if I'd been transported into the time period and scenes myself. The creators did such an amazing job on the casting aspect, and who got which role, as it brought me in and kept me captivated watching all the actors be true to their roles.
Next, I'd like to talk about the scenes and graphics throughout the series. The graphic designer used for this series did a phenomenal job. They included behind-the-scenes episodes, and after watching just one, my partner and I were so impressed with the amount of filters and additions it took to create such a realistic and entertaining show. It really put into perspective how much work goes into creating and editing visual media. Anyone who works in the graphic design/visual editing department seriously deserves so much props, lots of work goes in, and appreciation is definitely needed. (side note: AI is dangerous and damaging to human jobs and could potentially harm editors' jobs. I encourage everyone to learn and understand the harm AI use can do to visual media, and is already doing.
Finally, I'd like to talk about the INSANE connections this series made to the original movie (or book, I really don't know because I've never read it). First of all, the original girl, Ms. Beverly Marsh, had a cameo in the final episode of this season that was incredible. That was something I truly didn't expect, and my partner and I were screaming at the TV in shock. This series, as mentioned, takes place 27 years before the “Losers Club” we all know was even a thing, or so we thought! In the final episode, so much is revealed and becomes clear. Pennywise mentions the future and the past, and it allows us to understand that the clown does not work on a time frame we as humans know, only moving forward. Pennywise moves back and forth as he can move his consciousness from time period to time period as wanted. The clown mentions beloved Richie Tozier in the final episode to the main character, Marge “Tozier”. Marge is not yet known to have the last name Tozier as shes still just a child in this series, allowing us viewers to learn that Pennywise already knows the future and wants to alter the future as it is to hopefully prevent or lessen the effects of the losers club on his death. We now know that Pennywise ultimately knows his demise and cannot travel any farther in the future than 2016, the time in which the second IT movie is based. So he moves as far backwards as possible to try to prevent or alter his decided death. The rumor is that the second season will take place 27 years earlier, where Pennywise travels even further back in time to try to alter his death even more. We see the main character kids are quite capable of preventing him from altering his timeline. If you're having trouble following, a person on TikTok provides a wonderful account of everything Ive just stated, at the username @longmirelp, video attached to username.
All in all, this series was such an exciting and worthwhile show. It was released every Sunday at 9 pm and was my partner and my most looked-forward-to thing every week. We’re devastated it's over, but so excited for the next season! (ALSO, STRANGER THINGS IN 10 DAYS!!!) IT: Welcome to Derry is a 10/10 show for me, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys something along the creepy genre. I hope that if you're into the lore of IT, you check it out or have already watched it and can enjoy it as much as I did.
