Spooky Families- A Series: Part One
Let's talk about spooky family members.
Do you have a family member who often experiences something supernatural? We're gonna talk creepy stories, hauntings, and downright “I see dead people”.
Ghost stories and sightings are definitely subjective. If a person isn't open to experiencing it, more than likely they won't. However, for those who do experience, we get some interesting stories to share. I don't want to give away too many spooky stories today, so we will do this in a series of posts. Check back every Monday for new posts!
Today, let's talk about family members that can sense when spirits are present and shadowy figures haunting the halls of our homes. In this case, me! I'm our spooky family member today. Typically, individuals who can “see ghosts” are called psychics, mediums, or clairvoyants. Some are born with this gift, some develop it over time, and some never get it.
Diving in with our first story, I have had many encounters in my 20 years. As a little girl, I was petrified to sleep in my own room; the older I get, the more I remember. Being honest, I slept with my parents in their bed until I was almost 10 years old. When I was younger, I attributed this to comfort, familiarity, and my love for sneaking the TV on at 2 am when they were both asleep to watch George Lopez on Nickelodeon. However, the older I get, the more memories flash through my mind from all those nights sleeping in my parents' room. The first instance that stands out to me that I remember seeing every night is the shadow figures. From my parents' bedroom, you can see into the dining room and living room. Doors always stay open in our home; it's just how we like it. I used to lie awake at night watching these shadows walk back and forth, at least one man and one woman. The man never had any defining features other than the fact that he was tall, and I could tell he had an older historical type haircut. The woman had a bit more defining characteristics as I could see her hair tied back tightly in a neat bun at the back of her head, and a long, flowy dress as if she were from the 1800s. I used to watch them walk in and out of the kitchen, confused but never scared. Unfortunately, it seems I can no longer see them as I haven't seen them for probably 7-8 years.
In addition to my two friends, sometimes, yet not often, there would be a figure IN my parents' room with us. This figure scared me greatly, not enough to wake my parents up, but just enough for me to keep my eyes on it till eventually they got too heavy to keep open. This figure never had defining features other than dimly lit eyes that I could just make out. The presence felt heavily masculine, but I cannot be 100 percent certain. This figure stood in the corner of the room in front of my parents' closet, closest to my dad. They never did anything but stand there, watching, looming over the room with a dark cloud. This figure showed up every so often, but not nearly as much as I saw the other two.
I’ll wrap things up with two more personal stories from my own home. We finally moved forward, and I now sleep in my own room. Every so often, starting 9-10 years ago, I see that same shadowed figure from my parents' room standing in the corner of my room, right in front of the closet. This happens way less often than it did when I was younger, and sometimes I can't even see it anymore;e, I just feel it. Still, it can be unsettling. I've started talking to it, letting it know that I'm aware of its presence and that it is not welcome to watch over me, as it's making me uncomfortable. That usually does the trick; however, this shadowy figure doesn't feel as scary as the other one did; perhaps it is not the same one.
Finally, to wrap this post up, our second floor is most definitely haunted. There are multiple instances where I've been upstairs and either felt a presence, heard someone whisper in my ear, or tug on my foot. The upstairs was originally remodeled to be my room, but I've had far too many encounters that scared me out of moving into it. One night, as I was falling asleep, I heard someone say something directly into my ear; the words were incoherent, yet it jolted me awake. This scared me, but I thought my mind was playing tricks on me and tried to fall back to sleep. Right as I started to close my eyes again, I felt something tug my foot. It wasn't like falling asleep and your body relaxes, then stiffens again when you wake up; this was full-blown. Someone had grabbed my foot and yanked it further down the bed. That was enough for me to gather my things and sleep downstairs instead. That instance has me very scared to sleep up there again.
I hope this spooky episode of encounters within my home has been fun to read. I have plenty more encounters to share from outside of my home as well.
